Dear Reader,
My husband and I were pumped for our honeymoon. We'd just been married two days earlier and now we were on our way to Portland International Jetport to board our plane to San Francisco, California! Our trip didn't get off to the greatest of starts. Our first flight was cancelled which caused us to leave a whole day later than we had originally planned. We were stranded in Portland with no car (as my best friend had dropped us off at the airport and then drove back to Bangor), which left us feeling even more frustrated. Was this how we were starting newlywed life?
Thankfully, our flight was rescheduled for 6 a.m. the next morning, so we ended up arriving in San Francisco shortly after 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Stepping off that 6-hour flight was a relief. We quickly snagged a taxi and were on our way to downtown San Francisco. Anyone who knows me well knows that I hate riding in cars with people. I'd much rather be driving myself. Needless to say, the 80 mph taxi drive on the freeway to our hotel was a bit nerve-wracking.
Upon arrival to The Westin on Market Street, I became immediately homesick. This city was so different: the hustle and bustle, the west coast mentality, and the immense amount of homeless people. I was feeling the culture shock. Being in an unfamiliar place can do that to you. David and I decided to grab a bite to eat at The California Pizza Kitchen located across the street from our hotel. As we sat on the terrace perusing the menu, we convinced ourselves that we needed to embrace our time in this city. It may be a shock at first, but we only live once. We may only ever travel here once. We must make the most of it.
This website chronicles our honeymoon in "The City by the Bay," and all of its inspirations. For the best viewing experience, begin on this page and work through each tab at the top from left to right.
We'd come to love this city and everything in it.
Enjoy,
Danielle
