Top 10 Reasons to Visit San Francisco
1. The weather.
No, you won’t be sweating it out like in Southern California, but you won’t ever have a bad weather day either. A slight breeze from the bay, fog that burns off by mid-morning, and complete sunshine. How can you complain?
2. Alcatraz.
With former residences such as Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly, Alcatraz is the single most popular attraction in San Francisco. Take a guided audio tour through the prison and relive the daily life of staff and inmates.
3. Sports.
Giants. 49ers. San Francisco is a great sports city. The stadiums are beautiful and they’ve had some really great teams in the past few years. The locals love their teams and wear the hats and jerseys with pride.
4. Wine.
San Francisco lies on the outskirts of Wine Country. Napa Valley and Sonoma are within a short drive over the Gold Gate Bridge. Enjoy breathtaking scenery, delicious wine, and fun local fare.
5. The Piers.
Pier 39 is a popular tourist destination located along the historic San Francisco Waterfront. Not only will you find a variety of restaurants and shops, but you will also enjoy a plethora of street performers and sea lions gathered on a local dock.
6. Classic Cable Cars/Transportation.
When you think San Francisco, most people think about the famous cable cars. What a way to explore the city! My husband and I definitely had this on our list of things to do. $6 buys you a one-way trip on 1 of 3 lines. Not economical at all, but a must-do on your trip to San Francisco.
7. Full House Park- Alamo Square.
I’m a 90s kid, so Full House was a staple in my house growing up. Relive your childhood and visit Alamo Square, where the opening sequence of the sitcom was filmed! Oh, and don’t forget you’ll also find Mrs. Doubtfire’s house here!
8. Environmentally Savvy.
San Francisco is a very eco-friendly city. Every food establishment we went to had various bins for different products: paper, plastic, other trash, etc. When you shop, it costs 10 cents if you’d like a plastic bag.
9. Culture-Gay Pride.
San Francisco: The Gay Capital of the U.S. The Castro District was one of the first gay neighborhood’s in the country and remains the largest. You’ll find gay cafes, gay shopping malls, and even gay movie theaters. Although we didn’t make it here during our trip, it is certainly a must-see destination. Yay for forward-thinking and diversity!
10. The Golden Gate Bridge.
Nothing quite captures the essence of the city than the Golden Gate Bridge. Fun fact: “International Orange” is the name given for the color of the bridge!
